    About Manning Gorge

Manning Gorge in the Kimberley is one of the region's most celebrated swimming and walking destinations, located on Mount Barnett Station along the iconic Gibb River Road. Known for its clear pools, rugged scenery and seasonal waterfalls, the gorge offers an adventurous outback experience for travellers exploring Western Australia's north. Set along Manning Creek, water remains in several deep pools year round, making it an inviting place for a refreshing swim beneath towering rock walls, particularly earlier in the dry season when the waterfalls are flowing. Visitors may also encounter examples of ancient Bradshaw and Wandjina rock art, adding cultural depth to the journey through this striking landscape. Reaching the gorge involves an adventurous walk of approximately three kilometres from the campground, beginning with a creek crossing before continuing along an informal trail marked by rock cairns and trail indicators. The camping area is located near the trailhead and is accessed via a short drive from Mount Barnett Roadhouse, allowing visitors to stay close to the gorge while having convenient access to supplies. Accessible by four wheel drive only and best visited between May and October, Manning Gorge is a rewarding stop for those travelling the Gibb River Road, inviting travellers to slow down and immerse themselves in one of the Kimberley's most memorable natural settings.
